Ashish Ranjan v. Union of India
Background
This order does not decide the main case. The main writ petition, which laid down a time schedule for medical college admissions, had already been finally decided by the Supreme Court in 2016. Maharishi Markandeshwar University, which was not a party to that case, later filed two applications seeking permission to fill vacant PG medical and dental seats for the 2017-18 academic year outside that schedule.
Decision Breakdown
This is not a final decision on the main case. On 19 June 2017 a Vacation Bench dismissed the University's two applications. The main writ petition was not before the Court on that date.
Lesson Learnt
An admission schedule already fixed by the Court must be followed and will not be relaxed for latecomers.
